Osteoporosis is a systemic disease of the skeleton characterized by the reduction of the bone mass and structural changes in bone tissue, which is expressed so much that even fractures can occur even with a minor trauma. Osteoporosis takes the leading place among the diseases of the musculoskeletal system. In recent decades, this problem has gained special significance in Ukraine owing to a significant deterioration of the ecological situation and two closely related demographic processes: sharp increase of population of elderly and old aged people , and in particular, the number of women in the postmenopausal period of life. For today in literature there are only isolated studies on physical performance depending on the number of previous vertebral fractures, but studies of physical activity in patients depending on localization of vertebral fractures have not been found. Therefore, the purpose of our research was to study the indices of the bone mineral density and physical activity in women of the older age groups with vertebral fractures depending on their localization. The data of our study suggest that indices of the bone mineral density and physical performance in women of the older age groups have some particularities depending on the localization of vertebral fractures which should be taken into account while developing of rehabilitation programs for the use in therapeutic and rehabilitation centers of orthopedic profile.
