Professional Sports in the Modern Society: Problems and Perspectives

The article reveals the social value of professional sport for modern society. It is proved that professional sport significantly influences the formation of the system of values, human consciousness, lifestyle of a modern man, on his physical and moral face. The social value of sport lies in the fact that it is a means of ethical, aesthetic, moral upbringing of the person. Professional sport represents a sort of micro-model of the very society, the attitude of which corresponds to preservation, maintaining and updating in it the system of common values. Professional sports and society are in relationships that are interrelated with each other.Professional sport not only reflects the character of the modern society, but also actively influences it. The tasks which solves sports as a social institution are determined, as well as specific, essential functions only that it performs in a society. It is specified that the separate functions which are essential in sport in general, in professional sports have their own special color. The urgent problems of modern professional sports are considered among which, first of all, it is necessary to mark the use of doping, because there are constantly scandals connected with its use by athletes from different countries.
It negatively affects health of athletes, deprives them of conquered awards, championship titles, but can lead to death. Therefore, the fight against the use of doping is carried out in all countries of the world. It is noted that in professional sports the trend of development of spectacular sports that will bring big profits to all the interested parties (club owners, managers, mass media, athletes, etc.) will continue. It is anticipated that what awaits professional sports in the future, what are the prospects for its development and existence.
