Abstract

The article is devoted to substantiation of the main factors of formation of runners’ volitional qualities at medium distances which are the basis for achievement and display of high level sports results. The formation of volitional qualities of the personality is one of the leading tasks of education, and this task should be largely solved in the process of training sessions and sports competitions.The volitional qualities of an athlete are relatively stable mental entities which determine the level of conscious self-regulation of the personality’s behavior and his power over himself.Nowadays higher achievements in sport require athletes to demonstrate maximum volitional efforts and high psychological stability. Emotionally volitional training is one of the components of psychological training which is carried out in the process of training and competitive activities.Therefore, coaches, along with the development of physical qualities (speed, endurance, strength, etc.), need to use special techniques for the development of self-confidence, self-assertiveness, perseverance and dedication in the goal achievement, ability to overcome difficulties, the will to win, the ability to manage themselves, their feelings and experiences, the ability to critical mobilization of forces in terms of training sessions and competitions.

The essence of volitional qualities formation of runners at middle distances is analyzed and determined in the article on the basis of scientific and methodological literature. Diagnostic tools and evaluation criteria of the volitional qualities of young athletes are determined. Pedagogical conditions, means and methodology of education of young athletes’ volitional qualities in the process of training sessions and competitions have been developed and experimentally tested. The recommendations for coaches and athletes about methodology of education of volitional qualities are developed.
